"I'm considerate over the fact that some information that is commonware on Wikipedia, How can that be used for something needing a license"

Nishant, you mean open source. If it's an open source, I don't think there is any requirement for license. For commercial usage obliviously we have to get prior permission or license agreement.

Re: OBD
"You can use these codes directly, there are universaly supportedits just that if one code isn't supported by your car them there is no info. On that. Regarding the hardware I have already talked about in the blog"

Nishant, you mean that the customer can fine tune the code. Then it's ok in one sense and at the same time there are chances for negative impacts too.

Where are OBD codes?
Nishant, which site (or sites) would you recommend to look for these OBD-codes?

Do you have any idea about the info from etools.org? This is where they suggested people have to pay $$$ just to get a stream license from car manufacturers.

Re: Prank?
No, you can't control your vehicle through OBD, as its full-form goes "Onboard Diagnostics" its there to diagnose and provide info on hundereds of car parameters like RPM, speed ,coolant temparature , BUT if you are having the knowledge to extract the info of speed and based on a desired limit crossing you can have your car switched off not through the OBD but through hacking into the car ignition/current circuitry based on the info you got from OBD can get you playing 1000's of pranks.

I do the same stuff all the time and am paid for it too!

Prank?
So if you wanted to pull a prank on a buddy could you use this approach to set some engine configuration codes to stop the car from working? Should I find a way to put in a locking function to keep someone from messing with my car?

Nishant - No problem. It's a very interesting article. I had thought about this a few years back but never did anything. I might try to build a reader now.

When an MCU is not quite powerful enough, consider a single board computer.
Graphical LCD panels, especially when coupled with touchscreens, can make for a compelling user interface.

Sometimes an MCU needs to share data with a PC. The USB may provide a ready-made link for connecting them.
